Married: Charlene + Simon
Winning the award for my longest-serving bride-to-be, the super-lovely Charlene booked me more than two years ahead of her wedding date. Planning a change of career to retrain as a nurse, Charlene knew how busy the run up to the wedding was going to be for her, so made lots of key decisions as early as possible. It also gave us lots of time to get to know each other, which has been a real pleasure for me. This is one exceptionally kind and thoughtful lady – she even arranged for some flowers to be delivered to me on the morning on her wedding, to tell me how amazing she knew she’d be feeling by then in her dress – what a love!
Charlene loved my Wild Lupin gown in part because it was Edwardian-inspired – a period she loves and the same one her beautiful emerald and diamond engagement ring comes from.
To make the dress totally Charlene’s, we altered the bodice to make it more closely fitted and entirely covered in lace, but kept the lovely gold silk satin underneath. We swapped the original floaty lace trim at the neckline for a tiny enclosed lace trim to simplify the silhouette and accentuate Charlene’s tiny frame. We added sheer lace elbow length sleeves and a diagonal train to the skirt. Worn with a cathedral length veil and gold locket, Charlene looked the epitome of elegance.
Charlene and Simon had a full Catholic mass at their church ceremony, then headed to the stunningly beautiful Stockport Town Hall for the wedding breakfast and reception. The day had lots of Italian and Irish influences to reflect their family backgrounds, and a big nod to their excellent music taste with tables named after some of their favourite bands. Plus huge light up letters spelling out ‘amore’ and the best music on a wedding dancefloor I had ever heard! Charlene was kind enough to invite me along to celebrate with them, and it was an honour to be a part of this well-loved couple’s big day.
