Carly and tiffany
I’ve always wanted to make a pair of dresses for a same-sex couple, and couldn’t have dreamed of a better pair to make them for than Carly and Tiffany. When they first got in touch I tried hard to play it cool and not let them know how much I wanted the gig so that I didn’t scare them off…
Carly and Tiffany came along together for their first meeting with me, and we talked about the sort of things they both liked. From then on they came separately, and I was tasked with making sure the dresses went together well but weren’t too similar. And not telling either of them what the other was having, obviously!
Carly chose a bespoke dress that mixed the top of Clematis and the polka dot tulle skirt of Peony. She added a navy blue ribbon at the waist the same shade as her incredible Harriet Wilde shoes. We made a very last minute decision to crop her skirt to better show off those shoes (and her fabulous tattoos!).
Tiffany loved Astilbe but wanted something that finished off her shoulders, and to add in more flare to the skirt. We made her a silk slip dress underneath based on Bluebell with a little less fullness in the skirt, and a bespoke version of Astilbe’s lace overdress. The overdress finished higher at front and back than the original version and featured two sleeves that sat off the shoulder and hooked on to the slip straps to hold them up. We added extra lace to gather into the skirt to make it fuller, extra buttons down the back, and finished off with one of our embroidery belts at the waist. The oyster coloured belt complemented the peachy-orange tones of Tiff’s Harriet Wilde shoes.
Carly and Tiffany were married at the stunning Fig House at Middleton Lodge in North Yorkshire. Their theme was lobsters and ladybirds – images of which featured throughout, mostly drawn by art teacher Tiffany, who painted them both a pair of converse which they changed into later on. This was such a detailed and fun wedding, I laughed out loud at the spacehopper shots, wind-up toy races, and the flat caps which drama teacher Carly made them both don during her speech. It rained for most of their day, but these two had the best time regardless.
“Thank you so so much for our wonderful dresses! We both felt amazing in them and had an overwhelming amount of comments about how beautiful they were. We can’t thank you enough for all the hard work and effort you put into making them. You made the experience from day one an absolute pleasure.” Carly and Tiffany
