Alexandra is my best friend, and hers was the first wedding dress I made. Thank goodness she talked me into making it, as she helped me to renew my love of designing and making.
Alexandra’s dress was ivory silk; a one-shouldered design with a scooped out back. The skirt was A line and had pearl buttons running down the back from the waist. A separate Chantilly lace boat-neck top fell off one shoulder, and pulled in at the waist with a contrast colour belt covered in lace scallop edging.
“I looked in bridal shops for my wedding dress but cold not find ‘the dress’, so I got inspiration from a photo in a magazine. Kate took my ideas and together we designed my dream dress, I got to make decisions about all of the little details of the design and whenever I needed advice she was on hand. What’s more there is a marked difference between having a dress altered to fit and having a dress designed and made to fit your body shape exactly. The result was better than I could have hoped for. I can’t thank you enough Kate and I will treasure my dress always.” Alexandra
