Lucy in Lily

A simple, elegant, bias-cut wedding dress for a Peak District wedding

Lucy was initially torn between several of my understated wedding dress designs, and after some deliberation and a change of mind along the way, she decided on our simple and elegant Lily gown, which she secured at our first ever Sample Sale.

We needed to make some fairly major alterations to ensure Lucy’s Lily fitted her beautifully, as the sample dress was a couple of dress sizes too big. We shortened and slimmed down the straps, re-set the armholes, shortened the top at the waist seam, took it in at the sides from top to bottom, and re-hemmed the skirt.

Lily was designed to be our most simple bias-cut wedding dress design, one which works beautifully alone for brides seeking an understated style, and ideal for combining with other bridal separate pieces to add in detail. Lucy added to hers with a simple V neck top that she made from vintage lace, tied at the waist with a ribbon belt. A gorgeous pair of green velvet heels and a ribbon edged veil were the finishing touches.

A rustic and relaxed wedding day with home grown blooms

Lucy and Sam were married in a ceremony at the Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity in Edale. From there, it was a short walk with their guests to their reception venue, Edale Gathering – a rustic and relaxed barn venue surrounded by stunning Peak District views. Lucy set herself the challenge to grow all the flowers for the wedding and did the most wonderful job – all the bouquet florals and table flowers were homegrown.

I wanted to say a huge thank you! So many people said how amazing my dress was and ‘the nicest dress they’ve ever seen!’ I felt amazing in it too and it picked up the light so well. In the end, I made a lace top go over it so my shoulders were covered in church and put a ribbon round.
