Megan
Megan was brave enough to commission me to make her a dress from all the way over in Chicago, USA. After emailing to discuss options, she decided Viola was the dress for her, and sent through the measurements I requested. We agreed I’d post her through a toile (a mocked up version of the dress) in her closest dress size to try on at home, and then have a Zoom meeting to see how it fit and discuss any changes that were needed. This worked really well, and her mom was on hand with the pins and tape measure to help mark out where things needed to be adjusted for a better fit. Once Megan had decided she definitely wanted to proceed with Viola, she posted the toile back to us, and we used it to make a final version just for her.
Megan chose to switch the silver lace at the sleeves and belt for the complementary toned lace used on the top of Astilbe, which worked beautifully. We left the front of her dress skirt raw for her mom to hem, and included instructions and plenty of practise silk, as this is the one aspect of a bias-cut gown it’s impossible to get just right without an in person fitting.
After a first look, Megan and Chris had a gorgeously low-key celebration at Chris’s parents’ home on Pretty Lake in Mattawan, Michigan. In spite of the drizzle, they were able to put up cover and get married outside by the lake as planned, with their dog Betsy serving as Megan’s maid of honour and helping her mom to walk her down the aisle.
