Claire got in touch after falling for a heavily embellished Halfpenny London tulle over-dress, which she’d been lucky enough to find in her size in their sample sale. Claire wanted me to make a slip dress for her to go underneath, something beautiful enough to be worn alone after the wedding.

We decided on a bias-cut waisted slip dress in the heavy-weight oyster silk satin I adore, with a row of covered buttons and roleau loops down the back. I made sure the angles of the front neckline sat perfectly in line with the angles of embellishment on the over-dress, and lowered the back neckline to dip beyond the waist seam.

Claire also ordered a veil after trying on my studio samples, and I repaired the damaged tulle on the over-dress.

Claire and Will were married at Manorbier Castle in Pembrokeshire, and broke off from the more traditional celebrations to change into mermaid suits and enjoy a dip in the sea – pretty standard stuff really!

"Stepping into your gun-blue studio, I immediately realised I had found someone who was creating seriously stylish dresses for real women. The materials and cuts of the gowns are quite unique in an often frustrating market, looking to vintage glamour but with a modern, easy (glorious) to wear feel. It was lovely being able to talk about the process with you; both dress and wedding, and I felt you really understood what I was heading for; even if I wasn't quite sure myself. I got a ton of compliments on the day and am thrilled one of my friends is also getting her dress made by you for her wedding next summer. Really looking forward to wearing the under dress in the near future, it's lovely to feel that it wasn't just for one day. Thanks!' Claire-Jane
