Creative, all-analogue bridal editorial
Photographer Hollie Cornish came along to capture some behind the scenes footage at a Colour Block Shoot I put together with an ace team of collaborators last year. Hollie loves to work with analogue cameras - old school film-only, rather than digital - and her captures added a beautifully textural and fragile element to that shoot, which I loved. When Hollie asked me to work on an all-analogue studio editorial with her I jumped at the chance, and I really couldn’t be happier with the stunning imagery she produced on the day.
Analogue photography is unpredictable and art-led - fleeting moments are captured and can’t be edited afterwards. It’s something of an emotional rollercoaster trusting in the process and then waiting to see how the images come back from the developers - but so worth the wait!
The set-up for analogue is much more time intensive than digital, so we kept dress options and backdrop changes to a minimum, even though we had a full glorious day of shoot time. We decided on a few different backdrop options – a crinkled, pale material, shot in natural light, then paper backdrops in terracotta and light grey, shot under studio lighting. Both tones of the paper vary so much in the images Hollie captured that it seems like we used a whole range of coloured backgrounds.
Styling our silk wedding gowns and lace bridal separates
For the natural light images, we shot my Lavender champagne bias-cut silk-satin gown, styled with one of our silk hair bows made up in the same silk, and a delicate pearl-adorned veil.
On the grey paper backdrop, we shot the Cosmos silk slip dress, styled solo for all the minimal bridal vibes. Then to soften the clean lines, we added the stunningly detailed Daisy veil embroidered by Daisy Sheldon. We have a few of Daisy’s veils in the studio and they’re just so beautiful.
Next we styled Cosmos the Sweet Pea lace top, which added detail while keeping the silhouette clean and simple.
Lunaria – the hammered silk gown with the open back and floaty half-sleeves – we shot un-accessorised, bar the elegant glimpse of the Rosslyn heels in ivory.
In front of the terracotta paper backdrop we shot Gladioli – a glamorous but understated bias-cut silk gown with a statement cowl back. We styled Gladioli with one of our iridescent beads belts and another statement piece – the ruffle edged Beba veil, which looked incredible captured in movement for these analogue images. The midnight blue velvet Arabella heels looks beautiful with Gladioli too.
